The Race Writing Strategy worksheet is divided into three main areas: A question prompt, a prepared response, and the race. Each of these areas is divided into two sub-topics. The question prompt contains four basic questions: who, what, where, when, and why. The prepared response has ten different forms: (A), (B), (C), (D), (E), (F), (G), (H), (I), (J), (K), and (L). The race consists of seven parts: (A), (B), (C), (D), (E), (F), and (G). Finally, the form that best describes your situation is “none”.
The question prompt and prepared response can be used in conjunction with the race category in the race writing strategy. For example, if your goal is to do well on the short answer portion, answer the questions regarding the category that best describes your situation (e.g., ” percentile of blacks and/or women on a 1% scale in a state high school”. As you become familiar with the types of question and answers used in the SAT, you will want to know how to best create support for each type. For example, note how the word “restate” is used. This allows you to restate the answer if necessary.
