Skills Worksheet Active Reading

Skills Worksheet for Active Learning is an online publication of activities, games, and projects for kindergarteners. This worksheet includes activities designed by teachers and caregivers to help young children with reading skills develop in the early elementary grades. The activities are coordinated around popular books from young children’s grade one. They also address reading comprehension, creative writing skills, and grammar skills. The materials are designed by Mary Poitier, a world-renowned kindergarten teacher.

“Tips For Working with Texts” Active Reading lesson introduces the concept of using tips and tricks for working with text. For example, you can ask the children to read the first four lines and the first four words of each line. After reading the first four words, they can figure out what a question mark, parenthesis, or braces is. In this lesson, they will also learn how to use active reading strategies by showing them that parenthesis always stand for a pause and that braces always indicate a pause. The kids can work with the parenthesis until they recognize what they mean.

“Tips For Working with Texts” Active Reading lesson provides tips for active reading by showing kids a Holt environmental science worksheet. On this worksheet, the students have to color in the box areas in different shades. They are also asked to write the words in the boxes using correct penmanship and expression. When they complete the Holt environmental science worksheet, they are asked to read a reading aloud followed by a short explanation about the word they just colored in. The explanation should include information about the environmental impact of a given item.

“Tips For Working with Texts, Part 2” worksheet answers environmental science questions by showing kids a bibliography and lists of worksheets that teach kids about different topics. Teachers can search for specific topics in the library. Students have to browse the website to find what they need and then print the resource out.
