What do you mean by this? Well, let’s say that you have a student who has a particular idea. You want the student to write down everything they have heard about this idea, but what if the student puts the information on paper rather than onto the computer? This would defeat the main purpose of the Ted Talk Worksheet.
The worksheet contains tabs which can be used to tab into specific information. For instance, when the student hears about hydrogen fuel, he or she may want to write it down – as in type. On the tab, under the section on Hydrogen Fuel, there will be several choices: HHO, Hydroxy, Brown gas, etc. This allows the student to choose which way represents the idea best. After selecting a concept, the student can then hear how the scientists explain that concept to demonstrate how the idea is possible.

What if, instead of writing down the idea on paper, the student hears the explanation from the scientist in his or her voice? Then, why not listen to it? Surely that is better than just reading from a book. If the presentation is given in a classroom setting, the audiovisual aid will further enhance the presentation by allowing the student to see and hear the presenter (in this case, the scientist) speaking. That will give the student a more rounded education, as opposed to just reading from a book. After all, isn’t that the whole point of having a good teacher?
Once the student has the speech in his or her ears, what happens? Does it “sound” like the teacher is talking? Not necessarily. Sometimes a presentation can be so exciting that the student may forget what was said. If this happens, use the “back seat” to provide information about other concepts that are being covered throughout the lecture.

The Ted Talk worksheet is also a great resource for the audience. In the lecture, some information is left out because of time constraints. As the class goes on, the audience will hear additional information and will have the opportunity to ask questions. Then, when it is their turn to ask a question, they will be able to take note and try to remember if they already heard the concept or not.
The worksheet can also be used as an “expository phase.” After the lecture, there may be some information left out of the textbook or on the website that would make the professor’s speech easier to understand. Again, this worksheet will allow the audience to take notes on the information that is left out of the lecture. In addition, when the students review the worksheets and notes, they can then review the entire class document–which contains all of the assignments–in order.
