One of the most famous and yet most-ignored periods in American history is the period prior to the Cold War. Throughout that time there was a struggle between two competing philosophies. One was the theory of Mutual Trust wherein it was believed that every nation should be at least somewhat willing to trust another with their secrets, especially if those nations were to be those closest to the United States. America, being one of the greatest nations ever created in the history of mankind believed that it should always remain strong and neutral in its interactions with other nations. Of course the cold war worked out that way but what about the people who lived in those times?

Did America In The 20th Century experience anything like the Cuban Missile Crisis or the Space Shuttle disaster? Did we even launch a man into space? What about the hydrogen bomb, did we build one? Why is it Americans never discuss these important topics of our time? Well, that is because there is no such thing as America in the 20th century!
That was just one crisis, though there have been many others over the years. There was one called Pearl Harbor and the US was not involved in that one, although it was a US vessel that attacked it. Americans never worry about such things as that, and yet it shows very little regard for our neighbors around the world. After that, Japan would attack US bases and the US would go to war with Japan. Afterwards, after that war, no one really cared if a nation was an American ally or not. It became a lot of peace and love between the US and Japan, and then China joined the club.

It seems as if after every ten years or so that America decided to go into World War Two. And every time after that, it seemed like another nation got involved in a heated war with the US. By the end of the Second World War, America was so weak that even France considered nuclear weapons. After that, America was too weak and needed-World War Three to really save it, which of course ended up destroying China and the Soviet Union. During the Cold War, America was always at the bottom of the list of nations.
America was a fading empire and no longer had the money to back up her military might. World War Three also cost America a lot of money and a lot of soldiers. A decade later, America was still a great power, but it was no longer the greatest power in the world. So, it seems as though the decade did not do much for America in the sense of the above question.

Luckily, World War Four changed all that. After the Cold War, America was now the largest single economy in the entire world. Not only was America bigger than any other country in the entire world at that time, but it was also a powerhouse of international trade deals, and a provider for most of the goods that were sold around the world. No matter what the political situation was at any given time, or who was in charge, America was never far from a happy, prosperous home, nation, or world!
But America was a great power during the early part of the Cold War. We had one of the strongest and most respected military forces, one of the most technologically advanced aircraft carriers in the entire world, and we had the most powerful and fearsome atomic bomb, too. In fact, there were even fears that we might put it on a test using the bomb. All this is the history that made America in the 20th Century! And if America had gotten involved in the nuclear arms race during the early part of the Cold War, then we might still be a great nation, and nobody would even know about the controversy that existed because of America’s involvement.
